Betrayed By Your Mind

Shortly after our hike this morning, we heard the news about Grandma.

I thought that I had grieved for her years ago. That I was over the incredible injustice of one of the most intelligent women in my life slowly forgetting it all. Guess not.

Evolving to Marine Mammal

Dolphins, apparently, sleep with only half their brains at a time.*  Same for ducks.  And whales.  They can't afford to completely power down all at once.  Dolphins have to remember to breathe.  Ducks have to watch out for predators.  Whales have to take care of their kids after a long night at work.  Wait, no.  That's me.  People mostly sleep with their entire brains tuned out.  Luckily, after years of practice, I've learned to half-brain it when I have to.  And pray for nap time to come.

A deserted park on a sunny day.  I may have slipped into unconsciousness for a few minutes on the warm sand.

*I learn everything on public radio.

The Robot Period

Noah's drawings have recently become more than just scribbles and shapes. He's started drawing people. Sort of. Beings might be more accurate. Aliens and robots, specifically. These are today's sidewalk robots.

Yes, it does have a penis.  Excuse me, he does.

Ding-Dong Dash

You wish you lived in our neighborhood today. We made the best caramel corn ever for our May Day baskets. I was hesitant to try a recipe that misspells caramel.  But I saved it to my Google Documents with the correct spelling, so next time I won't have to cringe when I open it.

Both kids were down with the ding-dong dash.  Until one of our neighbors answered the door.  Greta freaked out and followed at a distance around the rest of the neighborhood.  Noah was fine on his own.  The kid can sprint.

It wouldn't be fair to Noah if I didn't have one picture of Greta losing her cool on the blog. Here she is, after being asked to give up the last basket to our last neighbor.
